Friday -- T.C(thulu).I.F. |
Bill
I'll
be arriving around noon with my wife Denise -- this is her first
time at a con, so it should be an interesting weekend. :-)
Derek
Ah,
I'm alive... This update is coming to you complements of the ConJosé
Internet Lounge. There are advantages of going to a convention
where 90% of the people are computer geeks (the other 10% are
Klingons). Anyway, the flight was fine, but my accommodations
have been less than desirable (the guy I'm rooming with, one of
them anyway, snores like thunder...not cool).
Last
night I went to a couple of parties, the writers workshop reception
and a little shindig for ex-Clarionites. I'm already exhausted...not
a good sign. I've only been to one panel, on writing for young
adults and children. It was pretty good, but so far it's the only
one I've been able to catch. I moderated my first workshop here,
and it went all right. I didn't think we'd need three hours to
critique two selections, but I think we could have easily gone
six (discipline, people, discipline!).
So
I'm off to some publisher's party this evening, and I'd also like
to catch the bid party for Tokyo this evening. Maybe more later...

SciFi Channel
Guests:
Craig Engler (General Manager of SciFi.com and of Sci Fi Magazine),
Scott Edelman (Editor in Chief for two magazines--Science Fiction
Weekly and Sci Fi Magazine)
This panel was to discuss current and possible projects to be
picked up or worked on by the Sci Fi Channel. (Both guys were
great conversationalists and quite funny.)

Ow.
I'm writing this in the middle of the concourse, after one hell
of a long day, and it isn't over yet.
The
day started with the realization that I 'd spent about 50% of
the night tossing and turning on an impossible hotel bed. Needless
to say, this didn't put me in the best of moods -- it also didn't
help that I was supposed to be part of a ceremonial honor guard
for the SFWA business meeting, except we didn't know when and
where we would be meeting our escortee.
