American history, baked beans and Havahd Yahd --
Fandom descends upon Boston!

Yes, kids, it's that time of year again when the fen faithful pack their costumes and gaming dice and travel to Worldcon for a Labor Day weekend full of panels, events and room parties (and, if you hang out with the SFF.Net contingent, lots and lots of shopping).

This year's gathering will be held in Boston in the wake of the Democratic Convention, so at least the locals won't be too shellshocked at the descent of Fandom en masse. I was last here in 1995 for Arisia, which was also the occasion of my first fiction sale, so who knows -- I may get lucky this weekend.

Um, in a publishing sort of way, I mean. And now Lyndon looks sad -- oh, never mind.

In addition to being the gathering place par excellence of Fandom, Worldcon is also one of the places where speculative fiction writers can meet, greet, make contacts and generally hobnob with other members of the writing dodge (and if you're a new/struggling writer, find a kind agent or editor willing to look at your work). Once again I'll be the only member of FutureClassics waving the flag at Noreascon this year, but I'll be quite the busy little camper nonetheless with the following activities:

  • Going to panels, readings and autographings.
  • Browsing the Dealer's Room and wishing I had more money.
  • Attending events such as First Night, the Hugos and the Masquerade.
  • Gathering in the hotel lobby to talk, swap stories, sing songs, drink drinks and natter with people like Elizabeth Moon, Esther Friesner, Lee Martindale, Selina Rosen, Julia Kosatka, Steve Staton, Keith Stokes, John Hemry, Vera Nazarian, James Hartley/Jay Caselberg, yadda yadda, the list goes on and on.
  • Taking pictures and notes wherever I go, as usual.
  • And, of course, hitting parties. Lots ands lots of parties.

Ahem. In any case, this website has been designed to let you enjoy Worldcon vicariously through my eyes, ears and digital image devices, and without having to pay for airfare.

Browse and enjoy!
