Toronto, touques and toonies --
Torcon 3's a beauty place to go, eh?

Yes, kids, it's that time of year again when the fen faithful pack their costumes and gaming dice and travel to Worldcon for a Labor Day weekend full of panels, events and room parties (and, if you hang out with the SFF.Net contingent, lots and lots of shopping).

This year's gathering will be held in Toronto, Ontario, which is delighting me to pieces because not only do I get to see all my friends from Montreal (namy of whom will be running around this weekend tearing their hair out because they're also on the concom), I also get to spend an entire weekend on the shore of a Great Lake. Okay, it's not Lake Michigan, but at this point I'll take what I can get.

In addition to being the gathering place par excellence of Fandom, Worldcon is also one of the places where speculative fiction writers can meet, greet, make contacts and generally hobnob with other members of the writing dodge (and if you're a new/struggling writer, find a kind agent or editor willing to look at your work). I'll be the only member of FutureClassics waving the flag at Torcon this year, but I'll be quite the busy little camper nonetheless with the following activities:

  • Going to panels, readings, filkings and autographings.
  • Browsing the Dealer's Room and wishing I had more money.
  • Attending events such as the Hugos and the Masquerade.
  • Doing critiques for the Torcon Writer's Workshop.
  • Working the SFWA Emergency Medical Fund auction (which has an incredibly cool item this year for any SFWA Musketeer fans -- a one-of-a-kind SFWA Musketeer doll. Hotcha!)
  • Gathering in the hotel lobby to talk, swap stories, sing songs, drink drinks and natter with people like Elizabeth Moon, Esther Friesner, Lee Martindale, Terry Fong, Eugene Heller and John Scalzi.
  • Taking pictures and notes wherever I go, as usual (and yes, Steve, I'll take movies this year, too).
  • And, of course, hitting parties. Lots ands lots of parties.

Ahem. In any case, this website has been designed to let you enjoy Worldcon vicariously through my eyes, ears and digital image devices, and without having to pay for airfare.

Browse and enjoy!
